I am planning on visiting New England within the next few months—hopefully around mid-June. I am hitting up Boston, Agawam, Massachusetts, and hopefully Bristol, Connecticut. While the prospect of visiting the famous Six Flags New England amusement park gets me excited, there is something—or somewhere— I am looking forward to even more. There is this town about 30 minutes outside Boston you may have heard of called Salem. “Why Salem?” you ask? I am a history kind of guy…always have been, always will be. Salem, Massachusetts is, naturally, where the infamous Salem Witch Trials took place in the 1690s. Macabre and morbid as it sounds, I love “dark” history like this. I am fascinated with infamous moments in history, the “darker” side, if you will. Side note, my sisters live in Philadelphia and I have toured the famous Eastern State Penitentiary twice. I love places like that with a dark past. Here’s the weird part: I absolutely LOVE “legit” haunted sites but I am not a huge fan of haunted houses. The weirder part? I actually used to work at a haunted house. But I digress…Back to Salem. I am just dying—no pun intended—to do a ghost tour in Salem. I’d love nothing more than to see “hot spots” in such a famous city. Also, the fact that you can visit the actual dungeon sites from the original Witch Trials is pretty freaking cool! AND I love the fact that the town of Salem chooses to embrace their superstitious and, quite frankly, violent past as opposed to simply trying to forget it or sweep it under the rug. I have never been to Massachusetts or Connecticut. I have been to Maine, but had a less-than-desirable experience there on account of my ex, so I am not bummed we are skipping it this go-round. Oh, and adding to the pluses…WE ARE DRIVING! I am a HUGE fan of road trips and I am sure this highly anticipated trip will not disappoint! So do you enjoy road trips? Or do you enjoy traveling in general? What has been your favorite trip? Is there a trip you are excited for or would like to go on? Let me know in the comments and thanks for reading!

  1. I am headed to Williamsburg Virginia this summer. I am excited to see the work that has been done at Jamestown. I follow their Facebook page and YouTube page for updates. I love history! We will also be going to the Smithsonian and the Maryland Historical Society. I am looking forward to the road trip to Williamsburg. I like road trips. I hope one day to do a train journey on Amtrak. It looks like a lot of fun. It’s something my mom has done and something she wants to do with me. I am really excited to see the country a different way.
