Last Friday, December 13, I saw my favorite cover band at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore. The band I am referring to is the one, the only Several Species. I know I have posted about them before, but this time was different and special. Why was it so special? I’ll get to that in a minute. Tim Morrison, the new-ish lead singer (he has been with the band since September 2018) was PHENOMENAL this time around! Let me explain. The first time I saw Several Species with Tim was in September 2018 during his first-ever show with the band. I thought he was “good” but not “great”. The band was amazing, but there was just something “off” with Tim. I know it was his first time with the band, but he kept looking at the prompter, and you’d think a singer for a Pink Floyd tribute band would at least know Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, and Another Brick In the Wall. This time, Tim hardly looked at the prompter at all. The band opened with Shine On You Crazy Diamond. The first set was mostly Wish You Were Here songs, but to close the first set, they played Pigs On the Wing Pt. 1 and Pigs (Three Different Ones). Notably missing from these songs was Arnold the Flying Pig. The second set opened with Side 1 of the album The Wall. In other words, In the Flesh through Mother. They also played a semi-obscure Floyd song called Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. The main set closed with Brain Damage/Eclipse from Dark Side of the Moon. Then came the encore. This consisted of Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, and Run Like Hell. Per usual, I asked for a setlist after the show. But that’s where the “usual” stuff stops. After the show, I asked Tim for an autograph. Tim being the nice guy he is, invited me BACKSTAGE for autographs and a meet-and-greet. The only ones back there were the bass player, Dave DeMarco, Tim, and me. But being backstage with one of my favorite bands? Um…HELLO!? THAT’S FUCKING AWESOME! After that, Tim gave me a guitar pick and informed me that he watches my YouTube vids to “critique myself”. A day later, Tim subscribed to my YouTube page. Tim—and all the band members in general—are just super nice and down-to-Earth guys. So Tim, if you are reading this—or any member of the band for that matter—THANK YOU! Thank you for keeping Pink Floyd alive for 20 some years! And thanks to you, my followers, for reading and I’ll see you on the Dark Side of the Moon!
