Today, December 8, 2019 is my last day here at camp in Chestertown, Maryland. I am currently in my cabin in camp thinking about my weekend. I drove with my mom to camp on Friday and we arrived around 5:30pm. Check-in wasn’t until 6pm so I just shot hoops in the gym for awhile. I didn’t make that many baskets, but it was still a good workout. After being cleared by the nurse, I went to my cabin, Choptank. This is the cabin I stayed in last Summer and two days this past August, so it felt very familiar. Friday night we didn’t really do anything. I ate dinner around 7pm…just in time, because I hadn’t eaten since lunch and I was absolutely STARVING! After dinner, I headed back to the cabin to turn in for the night.
Saturday morning around 7:30, my group woke up for meds. After we got our medications, we headed to the dining hall for coffee and breakfast. From there, we headed to the rec hall for potter and something called “Boomwhackers”. Those are essentially PVC pipes cut to certain lengths. When hit, they make different notes. We played Day-O!, Winter Wonderland, and Frosty the Snowman. If you want to hear what it sound like for yourselves, I attached a link below.
After that, we had some time to kill before we went back to the cabins so we did a little karaoke. I chose to do Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. I posted the video of me singing to YouTube and within an hour someone had commented on it…a positive comment no less! After spending some downtime in the cabin, we headed back out into the cold for dinner. We had penny pasta and spaghetti for dinner, which was great! After dinner, we did Christmas Trivia. My team, the Golden Santas, came in 3rd out of 4 teams, but in the spirit of the holidays, everybody won and I got a shirt and a water bottle! I am actually wearing the shirt right now. I was dead tired by the end of the night, so I went to bed almost immediately after getting back to the cabin.
After taking my meds this morning, we had pancakes, bacon, and sausage patties for breakfast. We have karaoke at 11:30 this morning, so I am killing time by writing about my experience. While it has been colder than Holy Hell outside, it’s been a great time! I cannot wait to get home to my own bed, though. The cabin beds are “ok”. The mattresses take some getting used to. All I had for covers is a sleeping bag. But we had heat in the cabin, so it’s all good.
Well that’s gonna do it for me. I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Thanks for reading!
