I have a few favorite Fall (try saying that 5 times fast!) I’d like to talk about today. Some are in the past; some I still do; and some I would like to do again. One thing I do without fail every Fall around mid-September to October is carving pumpkins. This is, without a doubt, my favorite thing to do come Fall. I do not know if it is because I love baking the seeds or because it’s just purely fun mutilating a fruit. You gotta admit, even if you don’t like pumpkin-y things, it is cool looking at a well-done Jack-O-Lantern. I love customizing my pumpkin from year to year! You can make them scary, funny, or even personalize them. I look forward to Fall mostly for pumpkin flavored coffee, if I am being completely honest. I am in LOVE with pumpkin flavored coffee and lattes. Mmmm…pumpkin spice latte…
Another thing I love about Fall is just the overall ambiance and atmosphere. I love the colors of the leaves when they change color. It is just so beautiful. It is always so mesmerizing seeing the leaves all different colors as opposed to just green or dead. I know technically, the leaves changing color is just the leaves slowly dying, but dammit is it PRETTY!
I mentioned some things I no longer do. Jumping into a pile of leaves is one of those things. And yes, I admit, I miss doing that. Ah, to be young…I used to love doing that! Raking leaves into a nice pile then decimating it by jumping into it, to me, is the epitome of Fall fun for kids.
Hayrides were, and still are, fun too…just don’t wear shorts while riding on a bale of hay. It itches. I don’t know what it is. Something about riding on the back of a tractor on a bale of hay or straw, to me, is just fun and nostalgic.
Speaking of nostalgic, one thing I am dying to do this Fall, juvenile as it sounds, is making a scarecrow. Again, I know it is more a kids’ activity more than aimed at adults, but I would love to do it again purely to reminisce and relive part of my childhood. Come on! Deep down inside, you know you miss it, too!
Of course, when people think of Fall and October, Halloween immediately comes to mind. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I know when people think of fun holidays, Christmas is usually the first thing they think of. However, controversial as this may be, part of me actually likes Halloween more than Christmas. To me, Christmas is a family holiday but can cause stress. Halloween is just purely fun. It lets kids and immature adults like me pretend to be someone or something else for a day. Plus, how many other holidays give you a pass on worshiping the paranormal? That would be…NONE!
Lastly, what I enjoy about Fall is having bonfires in my yard. Yes, I know we can do that anytime throughout the year, but think of Fall. Bonfires and Fall almost go hand-in-hand with each other. Sitting around a fire in the dark, roasting marshmallows, telling scary stories…they fit perfectly with each other. My dad builds big fires in our yard, too.
So what do you like about the Fall season? Let me know in the comments and as always, thanks for reading!
