UPCOMING MOVIE APPREHENSION

I bought a ticket the other day to see Toy Story 4 this Thursday at 6pm. Don’t get me wrong. I am REALLY excited to see it, but part of me is a little apprehensive and almost nervous about it, too. Let me explain. Toy Story is such an iconic movie franchise. It is also a huge part of my childhood and the original (from 1995) is among one of my favorite movies. There are so many iconic moments from the first Toy Story movie alone that are so historic. Among them are “This isn’t flying…this is falling, with style!”, “To Infinity and Beyond!”, Randy Newman’s song “You’ve Got A Friend In Me”, and the funniest clean insult in a kids’ movie, “You are a sad, strange little man and you have my pity.” Oh, and “The Claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!” How could I forget that? These are influential lines in cinema. It’s crazy to think Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Slinky, and later Jesse have been around for 25 years! So a majority of my life. To me, it’s even crazier and a bummer that something that has been so important to me and so many other kids from the 1990s is ending. It’s sad. It’s like I am letting part of my childhood go. I am actually tearing up writing this and the movie isn’t even out yet! If I can make ONE prediction about the movie (and this is NOT a spoiler alert) it’s this: I’m going to cry at the end of the movie. I can almost guarantee that. I stated in a previous post that I am a little wary about Toy Story 4 because I think Disney and Pixar ended the third movie flawlessly! If you have seen the movie, you know what I am talking about. If you haven’t, watch it!…NOW! I do think it’s a little weird that they are adding new toys to the last ever Toy Story film. If it were up to me, I’d leave it with the original characters and not add anything new. It’s almost like Disney and Pixar are teasing us. It is going to be sad saying goodbye to Buzz and Woody. Toy Story is such a huge part of cinema history. It is my favorite Disney/Pixar movie franchise. I grew up watching and loving these movies. I cried at the end of Toy Story 3 because 1: it was such a great ending and 2: I didn’t know they were coming out with a Toy Story 4. It has been nine years since Toy Story 3 came out so I do not know if anyone thought they would do one last movie. I am looking forward to seeing it but I do not want it to end. But I guess eventually, all good things have to come to an end. It will be a bittersweet, emotional movie for me but being a kid at heart, of course I am going to see it. I think there are some things from your youth you hold on to forever, and for me, the Toy Story franchise is one of those things. So I want to hear from you. Are you looking forward to Toy Story 4? Or do you think the franchise has overstayed its welcome? Thanks for reading!
