Today I would like to review a show I saw at An Pointin Still (aka The Still) in Timonium, MD last night. I went to see The Shamrogues and had a few drinks. I have seen them a bunch of times, but that does not matter. They always amaze me with an awesome show and great Irish songs! I got recognized by the band leader and banjo player, Jim, and he invited me to pose for a picture with the band at the end of the show and even made me an “honorary Shamrogue”. The Shamrogues are all SUPER nice and approachable. Probably one of, if not my favorite, songs from last night was a song I grew up listening to. They played The Unicorn Song during their first set. (They played three separate sets at the bar). The finale, naturally knowing the Shamrogues, was Drunken Sailor. This is one of my favorite Irish songs and it has a party atmosphere whenever the band plays it. Katie, the dancer with the band, is actually an eight time world championship dancer. And while I do miss the original lead singer, Adam, the guy who replaced him does just as good a job. There’s just something about a good old-fashioned Irish bar show that can’t be beat. It had a very intimate feel and I prefer that over the big arena shows. I have seen The Shamrogues for the last, probably 8 or 9 years at the Maryland Irish Festival at the Timonium Fairgrounds and they are always a lot of fun. All in all, it was an AWESOME time and I can’t wait to see them again! Thanks a lot Shamrogues for an awesome night and for making me an honorary band member!
