I am writing today about a band that is close to home–literally. The band I am writing about today is Wye Oak. Wye Oak is an indie rock duo from right here in Baltimore, Maryland. AKA Charm City. Jenn Waser, the lead singer graduated from McDonough High School and Andy Stack, the drummer, graduated from Catonsville High. So yeah…they are local and homegrown heroes. I got the chance to see them live back in November of 2018 at an underground club in Remington called The Ottobar. I have only been to Ottobar twice. Once was in 2015 to see Gene Ween from the band WEEN, and Wye Oak was my second show there. Wye Oak is kind of a mellow-ish indie rock band. They don’t rock out super hard; the only jam on the occasional song, and their lyrics are sweet and to the point. Wye Oak have really grown on me since I have seen them at Ottobar. I cannot get enough of their music. They are a fairly “new” band, from 2006, but their music is timeless to me. It is so good and so relatable that I can’t help but love them. Andy Stack is an amazing drummer, and Jenn Waser is an incredible vocalist and guitar player. When I saw Wye Oak, they covered a song by Kate Bush called “Running Up That Hill”. I have videos on my YouTube page if you want to check them out. I have attached a link to my profile on YouTube. So that’s it from me. I want to know what you guys think of Wye Oak, or if you have never heard of them, check them out and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!
