So I saw two movies over the course of 2 days in Hunt Valley. The first movie I saw was Mary Poppins Returns. Now I haven’t seen the original Mary Poppins in a few years, but it is one of those Disney movies that is memorable and even if you have never heard of Disney, WTF?! But I guarantee even if you have never seen any Disney movies, you have heard of Mary Poppins. But as a fan of the classic Disney movies, I’m not gonna lie…I was a little hesitant on seeing a sequel. So what did I think of the movie? OH MY GOD! HOLY CRAP! WOW! THEY DID SUCH AN AMAZING JOB! There are references to the original movie in the sequel. One thing I have to say that I think is interesting is that I saw it with my Aunt Susan, grandmother, Aunt Gina, my sister Abbey’s boyfriend Aaron, and my sisters. We all walked out of the movie and loved it…except my sister Caroline. She thought it was “OK”. So to me, I thought that was interesting. Emily Blunt made an absolutely amazing Mary Poppins. They even had some cameo appearances in the movie. Most notable was Dick Van Dyke, who played Bert in the original Mary Poppins. That was so much fun to see him in the movie! My biggest complaint with Dick Van Dyke’s appearance in the movie is that it was sort of, kind of hyped up. Like, he’s in the movie for maybe 3 minutes in the movie and you have to sit and wait and anticipate when he will come into the picture.  I can’t give any details away for risk of ruining the movie for those of you who want to see it, but if you’re like me and are a fan of the original movie, odds are you will not be disappointed! The penguins from the original movie make an appearance and I love that! One song was even an homage to the original musical number “Step in Time” from the original. It was titled “A Little Light Fantastic” and it was, well…fantastic! So out of 5 stars, what am I going to give Mary Poppins Returns? For a sequel, I easily give it a 5/5. But I feel bad about raving so much about this movie because I feel like I am hyping it up so much to the point where if you see the movie and you go in with the mindset that this movie will be like, the best Disney movie ever, then you might be disappointed. But I will say it is probably the best Disney sequel I have ever seen…apart from Finding Dory but that was a collaboration between Disney and Pixar. However, if you go in with the mindset that this movie is going to be a good movie for what it is, then yeah…you’re gonna like it. So that’s my review for Mary Poppins Returns.

The second movie I saw that I would like to review is Bumblebee. I was very surprised with how much I liked this movie. And let me just say, it’s not so much the movie I liked…it’s the soundtrack. My God! I love 80s music and this movie is set in 1987. So the soundtrack is almost nothing but music from the 1980s. As many of you know, Bumblebee is a TRANSFORMERS movie. However, it is a prequel to the TRANSFORMERS movies that have come out under Michael Bay in recent years. Honestly, I think I liked this more than the actual Transformers movies. Don’t get me wrong: those are good movies, but they push 3 hours long. This movie has that “long movie” feel to it, but in reality, it is only 1 hour and 53 minutes. So that was a nice break on both me and my butt. Hailey Steinfeld made an amazing lead and pulls off playing a 1980s teenage California girl perfectly! Maybe that’s because she is not that far off from 18 in real life (she is in her early 20s) and is from California. But the special effects were incredible. John Cena made a great CIA agent. What I think I liked about the movie was that it wasn’t all sci-fi action. At its core, the movie is a story about family. I think even if you don’t like Transformers, you will probably like this movie for its “family matters” understory. It also had some humor in it, which is always a good thing. I mean, Bumblebee trying to figure out his surrounding throughout the movie is heartwarming and kinda hilarious, actually. So should you see Bumblebee? I’d say yes, but this is just the kind of movie I personally enjoy. I realize these movies will not be everyone’s favorites and that’s totally fine and understandable. Hell, they aren’t my favorite movies, but they are the best I have seen recently. Actually, funny side-story. I saw Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns within 2 days of each other. I saw more kids in the Bumblebee movie that at the Mary Poppins movie. I just think that’s kind of funny, seeing as Transformers is kind of dark and scary in its nature and what it is about, whereas Mary Poppins is geared toward the family/kid demographic. Anyway, I digress. My score for Bumblebee is probably in the 4-4.5/5 range. So I want to hear from you. What movies do you like and how do you rate and classify them? Thanks for reading!
