OK. So I know this is a touchy issue and controversial. But that is why I decided to write about it. I actually think they should legalize marijuana. I probably should not admit to this, but I have actually smoked pot before. Keep in mind, I was hanging out with someone who did it nearly every day. I think it was more curiosity than anything. Honestly, when I tried smoking it, I didn’t feel anything. So it sort of raises the thing of, “Well why not?” I think it’s because I didn’t inhale enough or something. I am not an expert on weed. Forgive me stoners… But honestly, I think in order to get a better feel for whether pot is beneficial or not, I am going to have to try it again. I don’t know why pot is illegal. I really don’t. I mean, I think it is “healthier” for lack of a better term, than cigarettes. The thing is, Canada just legalized marijuana, and some of the states like California and Colorado, legalized pot. So why can’t the rest of the country follow suit? Now I don’t want to make it sound like I am a pothead or a pot addict. Because I have only smoked it a few times after high school. So why is marijuana frowned upon? Hell, most people in the United States have probably tried it at least once in their lives. People my age and older? I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a person mid 20s and older (I am 28) that can honestly say that they have never smoked pot. Or thought about it. I actually wish the government would legalize pot just because it seems like such a dumb thing to arrest people on. Save the charges for people who deserve to be locked up, like murderers and rapists. I assume the government is trying to set a “good example” for the United States younger people. But I think it’s a lost cause. It’s almost this angst-y teen thing that people in the States have. Like, if someone tells you not to do something, it almost makes you want to do it more. And to me, pot seems so old fashioned. Like, think of the other drugs people do these days like crystal meth, heroin, cocaine and even LSD and mushrooms. And LSD and mushrooms are kind of antiquated, too. Hippies used to do them. And that ties back to pot seeming old-fashioned. My grandparents probably smoked pot in their younger days, and that was in the 30s and 40s…I am assuming they did. If not, forgive me guys. But should pot be illegal? Frankly, I don’t think so. Pot is tame compared to some of the other drugs out there, and it’s medicated for pain. That is something you won’t find with meth or almost any other drug. Now I don’t want people to get the wrong impression. Contrary to what I just said, I do not want people to think this is Tom Whalen saying “Go out and smoke pot…NOW!” But I do believe in don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. So I wanna hear from you guys. I want to know what you think on this controversial topic. Write in and let me know. Thanks!
