RELIGION AND WAR

I know I am going to get some death threats or hate mail for this one. The topic I am debating/writing about/addressing today is “Can religion cause war?” I have some thought on this, so let’s get into it right here, right now. So my answer for “Can religion cause war” honestly is…yeah. I think it can. It has in the past. The Crusades and Holy Wars are prime examples of this. Religious or not, people in general can be hateful and spiteful. Jews and Muslims have it REALLY bad. Sad as it is, Anti-Semitism is alive, well, and rampant in today’s society and sort of always has been. Synagogues are being torched by arsonists and white supremacists every day. Temples are being bombed with innocent women and children inside. This is not only overseas. It happens here in the United States, too. If you are Muslim or Jewish and your place of worship is merely defaced or protested, consider it lucky.

I hate to open up old wounds, but 9/11 led to a war in the Middle East. This, in turn, led to a lot of the American people to associate the Islam and Muslim faiths with terrorism. Now am I saying ALL religion is bad? No, not by any means. I am merely saying that I personally think it is the overly-religious or really zealous religious people and groups–the ones who follow and believe everything their faith and beliefs to the letter is true–that try to enforce their faith or force their beliefs on others that we run into issues.

Religion, in my eyes, is both a blessing and a curse. People need something or someone to look up to or idolize and believe in/put their faith in, And that is an awesome, powerful, and beautiful concept…some all-mighty power, being, deity, or entity watching over us. That is amazing to me that all religions have that and “serve” something they cannot actually physically see or hear. BUT the issue with that is how incredibly varied the world’s religions and their ideas or image(s) of their God are. It leads to clashes. “My God says this, so you’re wrong and will pay!”. This leads to an argument. These particular kinds of arguments, especially in Saudi Arabia/Iran/Iraq/the Middle East, lead to violent conflicts. They are devout followers of their beliefs. This can lead to war. War causes a giant clusterfuck. Giant clusterfucks lead to people turning to religion and faith. And then we are back to Square One and the cycle starts all over again.

Just to clarify: I AM NOT BASHING RELIGION! These are my personal findings, beliefs, observations, and opinions. You are free to think what you want to think. That is your God-given choice. Let me know what you think of this topic, and as always, feel free to comment. Thanks!
