LEGACIES

WHEN YOU DIE WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE BEHIND? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEBERED BY/FOR?

Me personally? I want to leave behind a legacy, or at least a lasting impression. I do stand-up comedy for fun. I could care less if I am remembered for my comedy. I really want to be remembered for my Autism self-advocacy work. I honestly could give two shits about what people thought of me as a person. Hell, at my funeral, I actually want that one person to say, “Good! I’m glad that retarded asshole is gone!” or something along those lines. Why, you ask? Advocacy. Hopefully, people will stand up on my behalf and talk about how I was an asset to the Autism community…at least, in the Baltimore area. I want my kids to know how important self-advocacy is. That goes for anything in life. Autism—if any of my kids are on the Autism Spectrum, I want them to be open and speak up about it. Actually, that would be ideal because then my legacy would continue from one generation to the next. But I want my kids—and anyone reading this—that it’s ok. It’s ok to talk about it. If you’re gay…advocate for gay rights. Black…advocate the Hell out of why black lives matter. Women…advocate women’s rights. Autistic…advocate for equal rights. Whatever you might be…FUCKING ADVOCATE! People will remember you if you advocate. At the very least…I will remember you.
